Patrick Bambrough and Sophie Smits are the principals of SMITS + BAMBROUGH. They met at SCI Arc in Los Angeles in 1994 while pursuing their Master’s degree in Architecture. The firm’s practice is mainly residential and has been located in Los Angeles California since 1998. In 2015 the firm expanded its practice to Montréal, Québec.

Patrick has a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Columbia University, a Master’s degree in Architecture from SCI Arc, and has been a licensed architect in California since 2013. Since 2002, he has been working as a Structural Consultant for SMITS + BAMBROUGH, The Office of Gordon Polon Structural Engineering in Santa Monica and for a number of architects in the Los Angeles area.

Sophie has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design from the University of Québec in Montréal and a Master’s degree in Architecture from SCI Arc which she graduated with honour, receiving the AIA School Medal and The Certificate of Merit from The Henry Adams Fund for Excellence in the Study of Architecture. During and after her graduate studies, she has worked on research projects for Studio Works Architects and Guthrie + Buresh Architects in Los Angeles. After her graduate studies, she has taught freshman Design Studios and Lighting Design classes in the department of Environmental Design at Otis College of Art and Design, as well as Design Studios and Materials & Methods seminars in the department of Architecture at Woodbury University. Since 1998, she has been practicing architectural design at SMITS + BAMBROUGH, and for a number of architects in the Los Angeles area
